Sausage and FunniBonz... Hmmmm!

While sitting at home holding that brand new jar of FunniBonz Barbeque Sauce, you may be wondering to yourself, "Hmmm... what new delicious, finger-licking recipe can I make to pair with this awesome sauce?" Well, wonder no more! First read this article in Georgia Trend Magazine about sausage-making - Southern-style - featuring our friend David L. Martin of Home Style Foods. After that, we're sure something will come to you....

Barbeque Sausage and Peppers

Ingredients

1 pound Home Style Foods Southern Style Smoked Pork Sausage, sliced
1 large red bell pepper, cut into slices
1 large red onion, cut into slices
1 jar FunniBonz Barbeque Sauce
1/2 pound sliced provolone cheese
1 package steak sandwich rolls
Oil for cooking

Directions

1. Preheat about 2 tbsp oil in sauté pan. Sauté sausage until just slightly pink in the middle.

2. Add peppers and onions to the pan and continue cooking until sausage is evenly browned and vegetables are tender.

3. Drain any excess oil and add about half a cup of your favorite flavor of FunniBonz Barbeque sauce (more if you prefer). Combine until sauce is warmed through and ingredients are completely coated.

4. Put a couple slices of provolone cheese in the bottom of each steak roll. Transfer sausage and peppers to steak roll, on top of cheese, which will melt from the heat of the ingredients.

5. Grab some napkins, a cold beer and enjoy!

Tip: If you like it spicy, you can use Home Style Foods Hot Sausage or spice it up with FunniBonz Spicy or Fiery Chipotle sauces. Or you can do both! After all, it's your sandwich - it's your choice!

Spicy Venison Chili

Recipe created and contributed by David Duncan

1 lb of ground venison (beef is fine too)
1 large white onion
1 22oz can of crushed tomatos
2 15oz cans of beans (red, chilli, black - your preference - I like red)
1/2 tsp Red pepper (more if you prefer hotter)
1/2 tsp Chilli powder (again, more if you like hotter)
1 Tbsp FunniBonz Chipolte sauce
2 Tbsb FunniBonz Original (spicy would work too)

Brown the venison in a frying pan. Once brown, transfer to a stew pot - do not drain the fat. (If you are using ground beef, drain the fat. It tastes better and is better for you!)

Coarsely slice onion and add to the meat. Pour in the tomatoes and beans. Do not drain the beans. Add spices.

Bring to a slight boil and then reduce to a simmer. Cook down and reduce for one hour (uncovered).

Now add the FunniBonz. Continue simmering (covered) for at least another hour or until desired consistency is reached. Some like a thick chilli and some like it soupy.

Top with sour cream, shredded cheddar or grated parmesan to your liking. Enjoy!

Great news! Sam's Club now carries FunniBonz Barbeque Sauces. And to kick off our introduction into the market, we will be debuting our FunniBonz three-pack at the Sam's Road Show! The Road Show is the Grand Opening Celebration of the first store of the upcoming Edison Town Center in Edison, NJ.

The brand new, nearly 150,000 square foot, energy efficient facility now takes over the spot that the Ford Motors plant previously occupied, at 939 Route 1 South. It even includes a gas station.

Be sure to come out to the celebration. It runs from Thursday, September 9 to Sunday, September 12 and the shows last all day long. Besides FunniBonz, there will be lots of other vendors sampling their wares as well.

Our Weekly Local Markets

You may already know that you can purchase FunniBonz All Natural products at the West Windsor Community Farmers' Market. After all, that's where we are from and the hometown folks are sooooo supportive of our effort. On top of the wonderful products from local farms such as Terhune and Stults, you can also pick up some of the world's best kettle corn from Jonathan Lea's Good Times Kettle Corn. You can also taste some delicious and unusual gourmet short breads from Nicole and Jeff Bergman at Simply Nic's Specialty Foods. And feel free to indulge at Karen and Bo Child's Village Bakery. Everything that they bake is made with a lot of love (and sometimes bacon!) In fact, you can't go wrong anyway you turn! We are all there every Saturday morning thorough the October harvest.

Did you also know that you can also find FunniBonz at the Rutgers Garden's Farmers Market on Ryders Lane in New Brunswick? This market is open on Fridays from 12 pm to 5 pm. Here you can find products grown and produced locally, such as buffalo meat, cheese, vegetables, poultry, baked goods and, of course, All Natural barbeque sauces. The Rutgers Garden Farmer's Market will be open until October 29th.

We also sample and sell our products every Thursday from 11 am to 2 pm at the Capital City Market in downtown Trenton. The market is located on East State Street between Warren and Broad and features Imperial Life Products, cheesecake, cookies, pickles, breads and more. The market runs through the end of September.

Please come out to any (or all) of these events to support all of the local farmers, bakers, producers and vendors that make these events possible. The events are always so much fun - most times there is even live music - and there are lots of free samples so that you get the opportunity to try new things and experience some of the freshest ingredients available. Eating well isn't as hard as you think!

Best In Show

Great news!!! FunniBonz won the 2010 Award for Best Sauces at Food Network's Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival this weekend! The award came as a complete surprise and we are so proud and excited to show it off! It rounded out a wonderful weekend in Atlantic City!! Thanks so much to all of the judges that voted for us!

Although we've love to claim these two beauties as our own spokes models, Jennie and Nikki were actually at the show representing 2 Chicks With Chocolate who make some of the most deliciously mouth-watering chocolate confections! Our favorites included the Spicy Lemongrass with the caramel filling and the sweet and summery Lime Coconut bark.

Some of our favorite wines at the show came from our friend David Ees at JAQK Cellars. They offer some of the most palate-pleasing wines that we have ever tasted - and we've been to Napa! If you come across this logo while perusing for something new at your local spirits store, you will definitely want to give JAQK a try.

We also enjoyed meeting the entire crew from Pistol Pete's Steakhouse and Saloon from right in the Atlantic City area. We can't wait to stop in and see "Fearless" Freddy and his friends in action.

And, of course, we were fortunate enough to be right around the corner from our friend Jay from Jay's Crabshack. He makes the best Jumbo Lump Maryland Crab Cakes we have ever had. Seriously!!! Lots of meat, tons of flavor, none of that ridiculous filler; these babies just melt in your mouth. You'll never go back to Phillips again! And, of course, they are absolutely delicious with a squeeze of FunniBonz Barbeque Sauce on top. (I won't tell you which flavor, you'll have to decide for yourself!)

If you are looking for something fun and exciting to do this weekend, look no further than Atlantic City, NJ. This weekend, FunniBonz will be participating in Food Network's Food and Wine Festival.

This was one of our favorite shows last year. Everyone was lots of fun to meet and talk to and, of course, we love handing out samples of our sauces.

Our two newest flavors, Sweet and Tangy Mustard and Fiery Chipotle were not on the market at last year's show so we are also excited about introducing our newest flavors to the folks in the Atlantic City area.

One of our biggest thrills at the 2009 show was meeting Chef Ingrid Hoffman. She was gracious and sweet and we hope she stops through again this year.

Other celebrity chefs booked for the event include Guy Fieri, Paula Deen, The Neely's, Marcus Samuelsson, Sunny Anderson and our friend Georges Perrier among many others.

The Farmer's Market is Open for the Season

The West Windsor Farmer's Market is open on Saturdays throughout the Summer and early Fall from 9 am to 1 pm - rain or shine! Come out and try our newest FunniBonz flavors (and don't worry, we still have your classic favorites as well).

You will even see some new vendors this year including our friend Catherine Perry from Catherine's Vegan Sweets who serves delicious treats that you would never guess are completely vegan and Hopewell's Nomad Pizza which will serve their tasty fare from a wood fired brick oven right on their truck.

Come out and enjoy fresh Jersey produce, hear local music and see local entertainment and even get a massage from Synchronicity Bodywork Holistic Massage Therapy. You will absolutely love this year's Farmer's Market.

FunniBonz Charity Weekend

The weather is supposed to be great this weekend. Why not get out, share some sunshine with FunniBonz, and help out a charity all at the same time. This Sunday, FunniBonz will be participating in two charity events.

The first is Wilson’s 10-33 Benefit Ride and Picnic which will take place on Sunday, May 2, 2010 in Hillsborough Township, NJ. The event will include an escorted motorcycle run ending with a day of fun, picnic style. The $21 registration fee for this event will cover the cost of the ride, food (with lots of FunniBonz BBQ sauce), beverages and entertainment throughout the day. You can pay in advance right online with your PayPal account.

All of the money raised at this event will benefit the Wilson’s 10-33 Foundation Inc. (10-33 is the universal code in the Emergency Service for “Officer Needs Assistance”) The Foundation was created in 2009 to raise funds to aid Officer David Wilson, who was diagnosed in 2008 with Leukemia, with the financial burden caused by mounting medical expenses. Sadly, Officer Wilson succumbed to his illness in September of 2009. His wish was for the Wilson’s 10-33 Foundation was to continue to assist others in the Hillsborough Emergency Services community.

Here is the schedule of events:

9:00 am: Arrival and Registration of Bikes
11:15 am: Opening Ceremonies and Welcome
Noon: Bikes leave for ride
1:00 pm: Food – Live Music – Vendors – Prizes

Our second event will be held to support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk. It will also take place on Sunday, May 2 at St. Michael's Mutual Club at 406 Memorial Ave in Gibbstown, NJ.

Event host Melanie Ault will be walking 60 miles in honor of her grandmother who won her battle with breast cancer.

This shopping event will run from 12 pm to 4 pm and will also include an auction for some wonderful items. Please come out and show Melanie (and FunniBonz) some support!

It's a family-friendly event so pack up the kids and toss the spouse into the passenger seat! FunniBonz Barbequed Shrimp with Chipotle Bleu Cheese Grits

This weekend at the DC Metroplitan Food, Libations and Luxury Home Show, Jim Barbour from FunniBonz teamed up with Glenn Coleman of Glenn's Gourmet Goodies to demonstrate the versatility of their products.

One of the dishes that they made was Shrimp and Grits, making use of several of their products. Here is a quick and easy meal based on their recipes.

Stuff you'll need:
1 lb Shrimp, shelled and deveined
1 box Quick Grits
1 package Bleu Cheese crumbles
SLAP Seasoning
Butter
Light Cooking Oil
Salt
1 jar FunniBonz Original
1 bottle Chipotle White BBQ Sauce

Make grits as usual (about 6 servings).

Add about 1/4 cup crumbled bleu cheese and about 1/4 cup of Chipotle White BBQ Sauce and about 2 tablespoons of butter and salt to taste. Turn heat to lowest setting and put lid on pot. Be sure to stir occasionally.

Season shrimp with SLAP (Season Like A Pro) seasoning.

Add a tablespoon of oil to a separate saucepan. Once pan is hot, add shrimp and cook until opaque, about a minute or two on each side.

Once shrimp are cooked through, add a couple tablespoons of FunniBonz Barbeque sauce.

Don't add too much sauce as you don't want the shrimp soggy, just gently coated in the sauce.

Once the sauce is warmed through, it's time to plate up your dish. Place some warm grits on a plate and top with the barbequed shrimp. Enjoy with a cold beer and the sides of your choice.

Remember that all ingredients can be adjusted to your own tastes. If you like it more spicy, add more Chipotle BBQ Sauce and some black pepper. You can also use goat cheese or cream cheese in place of the bleu cheese for more or a less of a tangy flavor. Feel free to make it your own. Enjoy!

A Weekend at National Harbor

This weekend FunniBonz participated in the DC Metroplitan Food, Libations and Luxury Home Show at the expansive Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor, MD.

There were so many vendors there including smooth jazz by Bertram McLeish, wines and spirits supplied by Legends, jewelry by Adal Jewelry Designs and Pale Fire Designs, art by J. Bertram White and Matthew Johnston, fashions from Let's Wine and Debra Murray Wearable Art, handbags by Bette's Bags and, of course, several gourmet tastes including FunniBonz Barbeque Sauce.

Some of our favorites included the white BBQ Sauce varieties from Glenn's Goumet Goodies,

the amazingly versatile gourmet cheeses from Rising Sun Farms (the Key Lime is my absolute favorite!),

The delicious vinegars, sauces and oils from JD Gourmet,

the Southern-style barbeque sauces from Picky Vicki,

and the amazing upscale rice treats from Mallow Munchies.

Throughout the show, Jim joined up with Glenn Coleman of Glenn's Gourmet Goodies for some product demos. On Saturday they made FunniBonz Sloppy Joe wraps served with Wasabi Bleu Cheese cole slaw and freshly-made SLAP chips.

On Sunday they made Barbequed Shrimp with White BBQ Wasabi Grits. Both dishes were absolutely delicious!

Our table had a non-stop line of customers all day long. We sampled all-beef meatballs and our famous vegetarian FunniBonz Five Bean Medley.

We even had some extra help when our cousin Sharon Phox popped in and threw on a shirt. Within a few minutes she was selling like a pro! Look for her at our next event as well. She's HIRED!!!

A Taste of Home Style Foods

The folks at Home Style Foods have given our mom a place of honor. They posted her recipe for White Chili in their newsletter. In case you missed it, here it is:

1 pound Home style smoked sausage mild or hot

1 pound ground chicken

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1 large onion chopped

4 minced garlic cloves

4 teaspoons ground cumin

1 tablespoon crushed dried Oregano

4 skinned/ boned chicken breast

4 cups chicken broth

2 cups water

Juice of one lemon

1 Tablespoon lemon pepper

1 4- can chili peppers undrained

4 Cans Great Northern beans

4 9-oz packages of white shoepeg corn

Salt and pepper to taste

Shredded Monterey Jack cheese

4 stalks sliced green onions

Cook and stir onion, garlic, cumin, oregano in olive oil in large skillet until onion is tender. Brown ground chicken and pour off fat and set aside. Separate chicken breast and cut into 1 inch pieces. Add ground chicken, sausage and chicken breast to large sauce pan and add onion mixture. Add chicken broth and the rest of ingredients except cheese. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cover simmer 40 to 50 minutes

Serve with Shredded Monterrey Jack Cheese, green onions and Grandma's Cornbread. http://www.grandmascornbread.com/

Demo Weekend to Kick Off Summer Season!

In spite of all of the excessive snow we've had on the East Coast and the soaking rains on the West Coast, Summer is always, inevitably, around the corner. This weekend, as we Spring our clocks ahead, we are reminded that warmer weather is on the way. And what better way to is there to celebrate the warmer weather than a barbeque on your back deck surrounded by friends and family?

FunniBonz is here to make sure that all of your barbeque events are a blast to attend and the talk of the town for weeks afterward. (But in a good way! Not in a "could you believe Uncle Ulysses wore that ridiculous hairpiece?" kind of way!)

Winter Slow Food Market at Tre Piani

On Sunday, February 28, FunniBonz participated in the Slow Food of Central Jersey indoor Farmer's Market. The event took place on the top two floors of the gorgeous Tre Piani Restaurant at Princeton's Forrestal Village Shopping mecca. Live music from John Henry Goldman and his Straight Jazz Ensemble permeated the entire restaurant as local and sustainable vendors sampled their wares to passers-by.

The Hopewell Valley Vineyards, from Pennington, NJ were a favorite of ours, namely due to the Pinot Grigio that they make. Proceeds from sales of this wine are dedicated to Autism Research which is a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts.

We also met Nicole and Jeff from Simply Nic's Specialty Foods. They handmake wonderfully unusual and daringly original shortbread bars which include flavors such as Rosemary, Lavender and Cardamom-Candied Ginger. With their delicate artisian flavors, these aren't cookies you'll want to share with the kiddies. These are "curl up with a hot cup of tea and a good book" cookies.

Look for this heart-shaped logo on packages in local places around Central Jersey including Princeton's Whole Earth Center and Lawrenceville's Cherry Grove Farm. You can also purchase them online.

We made another friend in Catherine Perry of Catherine's Vegan Sweets. If the word "vegan" sounds scary to you, my fellow barbeque sauce lovers, don't be afraid. Catherine's dairy-free sweets will make a believer out of you.

Don't let the fact that she doesn't use and milk, butter or eggs in her baking fool you... or rather, DO let them fool you. Because her confections are DELICIOUS!! You will never miss a thing while you snack on a pumpkin spice cupcake or cranberry oatmeal nut whoopie pie.

We made a few other friends, too including Ian MacDonald of Cherry Grove Farm and some great folks from Valley Shepherd Creamery based in Long Valley, Morris County, NJ. Both farms offer wonderful, farm fresh cheeses to please any palate.

And of course, Terhune Orchards topped their famous apple cider and donuts with mouthwateringly fresh guacamole and salsa. Yum!

Jo and Jim spent the day sampling the sauces, including our new Sweet and Tangy Mustard sauce scheduled to launch this month. Customers seemed to really like it and we are really excited about the upcoming new release.

All in all it was a great afternoon. If you missed it, never fear. Look for us, and many of these vendors, at the West Windsor Farmer's Market beginning in May. Hope to see you there.

How to Make FunniBonz Chili

Here on the East Coast, Old Man Winter has been having a field day. As I watch the snowflakes fall outside my window this morning (again!), I realize, "This would be a great day for FunniBonz Chili!"

So, here's a step-by-step guide to show you how easy it can be to make great homemade chili with the help of your favorite FunniBonz Barbeque sauce. The great thing about chili is that you don't need measurements; everything works according to your personal tastes. Don't be afraid to experiment with seasonings, flavors and ingredients.

1) Brown one pound of ground beef (of course you can also use ground turkey or add in bulk sausage as well, if you prefer!) in a large pot or dutch oven.

2) Once meat is browned all the way through, drain and discard all fats from the pot.

3) Add diced peppers, onions and celery as desired.

4) Mix vegetables through and sauté for a few minutes.

5) Add in one can of crushed tomatos and mix well.

6) Add in a can of diced tomatoes. I usally prefer the Italian-style with basil and onion. Stir well.

7) Add in two beef bouillon cubes and mix well. These will gradually melt into the chili and add a burst of additional flavor. This would also be a great time to add in a can of mushrooms, if you desire, with liquid. I also like to add in a few washed and hand-torn celery leaves. They are absolutely delicious in chili.

8) Add in about three tablespoons of FunniBonz Spicy sauce. Doesn't seem like a lot but this adds lots of additional spices and flavors and just a little touch of sweetness. (Add more later or use FunniBonz Fiery Chipotle for some extra spice!)

9) Add in two cans of any beans that your prefer. Here we used light red kidney beans and black beans. Do not drain before adding; the bean starch adds flavor and consistency to the chili. Mix thoroughly.

10) Cover pot, set temperature to low and let simmer for as long as possible but no less than 30 minutes. This gives ingredients time to merge and blend. Don’t be afraid to taste along the way to see if there is anything else that your chili needs before serving.

11) Congratulations! You've successfully made a delicious, winter-fighting pot of FunniBonz Chili!

Enjoy with your favorite shredded cheese, grated parmesan, sour cream and tortilla chips, or over a bowl of steaming white rice! Can’t you just taste it now?

Your Top Five FunniBonz Show Questions Answered

We have the honor of meeting hundreds of people at every show - most of them are new to the FunniBonz experience and, of course, we end up hearing the same questions over and over again. So, to satisfy those curiosities, here are the answers to the most often asked questions from our customers:

1) How spicy is Spicy?

This is our most often asked question when we offer samples of FunniBonz Spicy sauce to new potential customers. And, of course, the answer is completely subjective. If you like spicy food, it's perfect. It starts out sweet, rises to a warm and tingly crescendo and then levels out without ever geting "too spicy." It's all about the flavor, not about the "burn."

If you have a super sensitive tongue, you may want to stick with FunniBonz Original. It still has some kick but has a sweet and mild aftertaste that your palate will just love. And this is a favorite among the kids. It's the best way we've found to get them to eat those pork chops!

For those of you that like it when that Spicy kick lasts past the end of the meal, you will love the FunniBonz Fiery Chipotle. It will be on store shelves by mid-March. If you don't see it next to the regular FunniBonz in your local store, ask for it!

2) How do you make your FunniBonz Five Bean Medley?
This is (almost literally) the World's Easiest Recipe. Here's what you do:
At the store, select five cans of your favorite types of beans. At past shows we have used black beans, pink beans, pinto beans, garbanzo beans, cannelini beans, kidney beans (light or dark), navy beans, lima beans, butter beans and even black eyed peas.

Drain all of the cans into a single collander and rinse the beans with cold water. Put into a pot on your stove. Add sauce to your taste and mix well. Warm through. Serve.

Of course, you can aways kick up your beans by adding in chopped onions, peppers, crumbled bacon or diced jalapenos or tomatoes and by letting the beans simmer slowly for a while, just to give the flavors time to blend. But that's completely up to you. Really - feel free to make it your own! You can't mess this one up!

3) Where are you really from?
We know it's hard to believe that great barbeque sauce can come from New Jersey but it's the truth.

Admittedly, Jim did go to college in Greensboro, North Carolina, however his inspiration for this creation came from grilling on the back deck with his Dad, business partner and brother in law right in West Windsor, New Jersey.

So yes, we are really from New Jersey and we hope to eventually be the ones to put Jersey on the map for great barbeque sauce!

4) How long have you been in business?
We are still a fledgling company. We've been incorporated since June 2008 and have been on store shelves since January of 2009. We are always grateful to Jack's Corner Market in East Brunswick for giving us a chance and to the folks at Pennington Quality Market for letting us do demo after demo in their awesome store and and all of the residents in Pennington, NJ for their unwavering support when we were just getting started.

5) Where else can I get FunniBonz besides this show?
On the East Coast, FunniBonz can be found in almost 200 stores from Connectcut through the mid-Atlantic region and down to Georgia. We are also in The GrapeVine Cottage in Zionsville, IN and Joe's Parkway Market in Bozeman, MT. And if you are lucky enough to have tickets to the 2010 Olympics, you can pick up a jar or two at Market Meats in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Jim speaks at The University of Georgia

Jim gave a lecture to students at the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business this morning about leaving the corporate world behind and becoming an entrepreneur.

"They were very enthusiastic," Jim said about the future MBA's after his talk. "They all made me feel very comfortable even though they asked some really compelling questions. I am very grateful to Scott Lord for inviting me down."

Asked what he plans to do next, Jim says he plans on concentrating on the launch of his two brand new sauces in March and to continue spreading the word about all of his sauces to stores and new venues.

"I'm really excited about the new sauces," he says. "I think people are really going to like them. They went over really well at the Fancy Food Show last month so that's a really good sign. And, of course, there's always more to come!"

FunniBonz, San Francisco and the Fancy Food Show

Back from our journey to the West Coast and boy did we have a great time at the Fancy Food Show. We met a lot of new people, tasted lots of great food, and made some valuable connections.

Our two newest flavors, Sweet & Tangy Mustard and Fiery Chipotle seemed to go over very well. These two exciting new flavors will be available in mid-March. If your store doesn't carry them, be sure to ask for them!

Retailers, distributors and vendors that visited our booth were able to take a complete flight through all four of our delicious tastes and decide which was best for their stores, their markets and their customers.

During most of the show we had large crowds gathered around Jim while he talked about his sauces, told his story and sampled the newest additions to the collection.

During the three-day convention, we met several great vendors including Gaye from Marie Callender's Gourmet. (They had wonderful cornbread and corn pancakes)...

...and the guys from Green County Foods that sampled delicious flavored party cheeses such as Cranberry Orange, Chocolate Walnut Cheese Fudge and Triple Berry Almond as well as fresh and gorgeous petits fours...

They served their sweet cheeses in mini-wafer cones which we thought was genious!

Our next-booth-neighbor was Tim from Tennessee. He brought his tasty Aussie Crunch gourmet popcorn (and his little hungry crocodile) to the show... (be sure to take note of the Sofi award on the right side of his table!)

One of our favorite tastes was at Sukhi's Gourmet Indian Food. It was hard to believe that this food was pre-packaged. Delicious and, if you like Indian food like we do, highly recommended...

One of the more social booths was at American Express. Alhough they weren't sampling food, Leo, Marlon and Kris made the booth a fun and humorous stop during the show...

Some of our other favs included Josh at Island Treasures Gourmet (moist, flavorful rum cakes), Susan and her hubby at Tea Spree (tried the Vanilla Rooiboos in a silken tea infuser - best I've ever tasted), Ayala's Herbal Water (based right here in the Philly area - the Lemongrass Mint Vanilla was my fav. Drink it ice cold!), Sahale snacks (gourmet candy coated nut blends. Seriously... how much better can it get?), Sweet Sam's Banking Company (we're still drooling over that Lemon Frosted Pound Cake), Oskri Organics (their Coconut Bars are to die for!), the folks at PopChips (the Sea Salt and Vinegar flavor is really good but try the Original with a squirt of FunniBonz Spicy! Wow!) and Peanut Flips (imagine PB Cap'n Crunch without all the sugar. Yum!)...

All-in-all, in spite of the rainstorms passing across the west, it ended up being a great show. We had an awesome time meeting new people and experiencing the show on the West Coast for the first time. We hope you were able to follow our tweets. ...that FunniBonz products are now Gluten-Free? You didn't? Well, you do now! Can't you hear all of those people with Celiac's disease breathing a collective sigh of relief as we speak? And no more searching the jar for that one elusive ingredient that always manages to ruin the whole thing for you! Just look for the words "Gluten Free" right on the label!

...that the entire family of FunniBonz sauces are Certified Kosher? What? You're losing a lot of points here, try to keep up! We were officially certified by the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America all the way back in October of 2009. So the answer is "Yes, you can serve FunniBonz spicy veggie dip at your son's Bar Mitzvah!" (Phone calls are being made... caterers are updating their party menus... it's a MAD house!) Just be sure you see the Orthodox Union symbol on the label!

...that we are coming out with not one but TWO new products? Ok, yes, you probably did know that. But did you know which two? And better yet, do you know when? Aha! I knew we would stump you!

As noted in our header, one of the new products will be a Sweet and Tangy Mustard sauce. I know! We are excited as well. Just think of all of the things you can do with a tangy mustard sauce accented with sweet clover honey... top your roast beef sandwich... coat your pork chops and then bake them to perfection... spread it on that warm but lonely slice of ham on your plate... dip your soft Philly-style pretzel braid... oh, the possibilities are endless. (Here - grab a napkin - I think you're drooling...)

You're gonna want to hold on to that napkin because the next sauce we are introducing is a Fiery Chipotle sauce (Fire being the operative word! Stay with me here.) We know you love Spicy. We can tell by the speed in which we must restock it in our stores. If you are already a fan of our Spicy sauce and nothing else will do then, by all means, stick to what you know.

But if you are one of those folks that loves a challenge, if you enjoy the feeling of having your nose run while you devour your wings, if you love to eat ribs while not actually being able to feel your tongue... ok, maybe it's not that bad! Actually the Fiery Chipotle Barbeque sauce has the flavor and characteristics of the Spicy sauce with one big diference. Where the kick in our Spicy Sauce has a mellow finish, the Fiery Chipotle Sauce keeps the heat coming. And it will still have you coming back for more.

Look for both of these new sauce beginning in March 2010. We know you are probably already planning menus around these sauces. Believe us, it will be worth the wait!

So... you're about to eat some deliciously tender chicken wings, hot from the oven and dripping with juices. But, wait... something's missing. You can't possibly enjoy those wings all by themselves. They're... they're NAKED!!

"Never fear," you hear emanating from the kitchen door (which is especially creepy because you live alone!) "FunniBonz is here!"

As you look up, excitement builds, tears well up in your eyes, the music swells (you know that's just in your head, right?) and you see a large bone wearing a cape, standing in your doorway and holding that one thing that will make those chicken wings sing! A brand new, unopened jar of FunniBonz Barbeque Sauce. (It's your dream, you can decide whether he's holding Original or Spicy!)

As the tears subside and you feel the steam seeping through your hot glove, you put down that succulent tray of chicken wings and go to retrieve that fantastic jar from Mr. Bonz.

You open the jar and dip your first wing right in (we don't recommend this practice if you don't live alone) and soon you have the sweet, spicy sauce dripping down your chin while your fingers are covered in the most delicious wing sauce you have ever tasted. "There is a heaven," you think, "and it's in this jar!"

As you wake from your fantasy and realize 1) you're out of chicken wings, 2) you live in Fulton County, Georgia, and 3) there probably isn't really a Mr. Bonz, you realize that this tantalizing food fantasy just can't come true. Or can it?

David Duncan was the winner of the FunniBonz Survival Basket

FunniBonz attended the Elixir Fund's Third Annual Cocktail Party & Silent Auction at the Mercer Oaks Golf Club on Sunday afternoon. The Elixir Fund is an organization created by Executive Director Megan McQuarrie in honor of her brother Kevin, who succumbed to cancer in 2003.

Kevin, who was always Hollywood handsome, had an outgoing personality and a boatload of talent, inspired this wonderful program that helps provide comfort amenities to cancer patients such as DVDs and players, massages, manicures, music and more.

Over 30 items were auctioned off at the event including a complete set of books written and signed by Jamie Lee Curtis, a thick, soft hand-made flannel baby blanket, a Finding Nemo movie poster signed by the entire cast, a day of golf for four at Jasna Polana, center ice tickets for a Flyers hockey game, an autographed copy of Barbara Walters' autobiography and, of course, a FunniBonz Survival Basket.

Cocktails and hors d'ouevres were enjoyed by all and the Elixir Fund was able to raise some money for a wonderful cause. FunniBonz certainly hopes to be involved in many more Elixir Fund events in the future.

October has been a Blast!

And we've only just begun! This past weekend, in spite of the fact that we started out with a little bit of rain, FunniBonz managed to make appearances at four separate venues.

On Saturday morning, we made our usual stop at the West Windsor Farmer's Market. It was rainy but a few dedicated fresh food lovers braved the weather and helped make our morning.

We also joined in on the celebration at the Hightstown Hometown Harvest Festival where we met some of the nicest residents and vendors ever. (Much love to Gina from the Windsor Seafood Market, the girls from Muscle Maker Grill in East Windsor and the ministers from Out of the Pit BBQ!) The weather cleared up nicely and the residents started coming out to taste the sauce and take home some jars.

We rounded out our Saturday at Mercer County Park's Burger Mania where local businesses sold their own versions of the famous hamburger slider in competiton with one another. Jeff Johnson of Hamilton's Carolina BBQ was the ultimate winner.

FunniBonz decided to opt out of the contest and serve something different. We offered FunniBonz Sloppy Joe and Pulled Pork slider platters instead. The pulled pork was slow roasted for nine hours, coated in FunniBonz Barbeque sauce and then topped with fresh home made cole slaw. Our line didn't end until the evening was over and all bellies were full. A HUGE shout out to McCaffrey's of West Windsor for all of their help and support at the event. We couldn't have done it without them!

On Sunday Jim made an appearance at the ShopRite of Mount Laurel at Union Mill Road where he sampled more of his now-famous pulled pork and cole slaw.

All in all, it was a wonderful weekend. Thank you so much to all of our Customers, Fans and Friends who continually support us, and recognize that this sauce can be used all year 'round, even when it isn't "grill season" anymore.

FunniBonz at the Hightstown Hometown Harvest Fair

On Saturday, October 10th FunniBonz will be sampling and selling sauce at the Hightstown’s annual Hometown Harvest Fair! This year’s family-friendly tradition is scheduled for Sat. October 10th from 10am – 4pm. Main Street will be closed to traffic in order to increase safety and enjoyment for all. Admission is free, and a rain date has been set for Sunday, October 11th.

Sponsored this year by 1st Constitution Bank, Verizon, CCL Label, and Allen & Stults Co., attendance has grown tremendously at this annual event. Based on last year’s estimates, as many as 5000 visitors are expected this year. Over 100 vendors are expected to participate.

Fair events will include a rubber ducky derby, chili cook-off, pony rides, craft vendors, pedal boat rides on scenic Peddie Lake, and non-stop live entertainment on two stages, including dance, musical performances and fitness demonstrations. A fashion show is planned, along with an artists’ alley on West Ward Street.

The all-new children’s pavilion will offer inflatables, face painting, sand art, pottery, tattoos, balloonist treats and activities, as well as a puppet show and magic show to entertain kids of all ages.

Two Brand New Locations

FunniBonz can now be found in two new locations. The first is a gorgeous Gourmet Shop right on Main Street in New Hope, Pennsylvania called Randolph & Main. This beautifully classic Victorian house has been turned into a sophisticated shop that provides everything from rich brownies to hard-to-find wine accessories to humorous refrigerator magnets. The owners also support their community by carrying quite a few locally-made products including Giuseppe's line of delicious Italian tomato gravy (A must-try!) and FunniBonz Barbeque sauces.

The second location, in Newburgh, NY, is called Adam's Fairacre Farms. Ultimate Burger Contest Planned for Mercer County

Love Burgers? Have a local favorite? Then don't miss the first battle for the bragging rights and title for "Mercer County's Ultimate Burger Award'' at the first Burger Mania Cook Off, featuring live music by 2U and Jimmy and the Parrots, on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 3 to 8 p.m.at Mercer County Park, near the ice skating rink. Admission is free.

Mercer County restaurants and caterers will grill up their favorite recipes and sell "sliders'' to visitors, who also will get a chance to vote. The free concerts kick off at 3 p.m. with Jimmy and the Parrots, followed by 2U at 6 p.m. The Goddard School Kid Zone will feature games, Howell Farm Hay bale Maze, Shooters Paintball Gallery and prizes for kids of all ages. Also featured will be the Hibernian Beer Garden and holiday crafters.

Visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable items for the Holiday Food Drive, to be donated to Mount Carmel Guild, which has served Mercer County since 1920. Those who donate will receive raffle tickets to win tickets to Corner of Chaos Haunted Maze, Corner Copia Family Fun Maze and Active Acres Farm’s Haunted House.

Competing Mercer County restaurants and caterers include Dublin Square Irish Pub, McCaffrey’s, Killarney’s Publick House and Funnibonz, who will be sampling their BBQ Sauces and selling tender, mouth-watering BBQ pulled pork sandwiches!

Judges include Mercer County Community College Hotel, Restaurant Institutional Management Professor Douglas Fee and Professor Frank Benowitz, and special guest Pat Tanner, the Princeton-based food and travel writer, restaurant reviewer, and radio talk show host.

How to Make FunniBonz Baked Beans

FunniBonz Original Baked Beans can be made in a vegetarian variety also, since FunniBonz Barbeque Sauce is both vegetarian and certified kosher. Here's a quick and easy way to make FunniBonz Famous Barbeque Baked Beans.

Dice about four slices of bacon. Quick tip: If the bacon is soft, use kitchen shears to more easily cut the bacon into pieces.

Place bacon into pot and render until golden.

While the bacon is cooking, drain and rinse beans.
(We recommend Goya as they are tightly packed and the texture works very well with our sauce.)
Here I used pinto beans but navy, northern, cannelini, lima and butter beans all work just as well. You can even mix them for an awesome medley.

Once the bacon is cooked down some, drain off most of the bacon fat. If you are making a vegetarian version of the beans, simply add enough oil to the pan to sauté the peppers and onions.

Add the vegetables to the bacon.

Mix well and sauté until tender.

Next, add the beans to the pot.

Then add your favorite FunniBonz Barbeque Sauce.

Mix well. Be gentle so that you don't break up softer beans.

Put on the lid, turn the heat down to low and let simmer for 15 or 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pinto beans are larger and denser than most. I usually let them go for about 40 minutes or so.

Serve piping hot with your favorite steaks, ribs, sausage, burgers, dogs or all by itself all year round!
It's like Summer in a jar!

Jim was featured in the August 4, 2009 issue of the Wall Street Journal. Here's a snippet:

His first sales were to friends. Then on Jan. 2 this year, Mr. Barbour walked into Pennington Quality Market, a store in Pennington, N.J., his hometown. The owners encourage locally made products. Don Rellstab, the store manager, really liked Mr. Barbour’s passion. Mr. Barbour started doing in-store demos. “He was like a circus barker, cooking up meatballs or ribs or chicken pieces,” Mr. Rellstab says.
The store sold $10,000 of sauce the first six weeks, at $5.99 a jar, says Mr. Rellstab. Then in March, Mr. Barbour started working on the manager of Whole Foods in Princeton. “He would say ‘Call me back in two weeks,’ or ‘Come in next month,’ and I would,” Mr. Barbour says. “It was just persistence.”

"Once again, we sampled a lot of food and wine, and there were two standouts from the Market. First was Princeton's FunniBonz Barbeque Sauce, a "Jersey-style" (whatever that means) sauce. It reminded us most of Memphis-style barbeque, and it was absolutely delicious. Hell, it made frozen meatballs taste homemade. When we mentioned to Funnibonz co-founder Jim Barbour that the only thing we really use barbeque sauce for is spareribs (as we tend to be more dry-rub barbeque fans), Barbour told us that ribs are exactly what his sauce was developed for. Sold. We went for two jars of the "spicy" variety, which has a very clean start and a nice, subtle kick on the back end. We can't wait to fire up the grill for this stuff."

Food and Wine Make Great New Friends and FunniBonz Fans

At the Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival this weekend, we met up with lots of old friends and managed to make some wonderful new fans as well.

Jim was interviewed by Cable Channel 12 for NJN News. The reporter tasted and loved the sauce.

(If anyone has a digital version of this footage, or even knows the name of the reporter, please let me know. I can't find it anywhere! Thanks!)

We were so honored that Chef Georges Perrier stopped by, tried the sauce and actually went home with a few jars! He really made our day!

We were lucky enough to catch Chef Ingrid Hoffmann (one of Lauryn's FAVORITE Food Network chefs) at a calm moment and she was SO gracious. She talked with us, took pictures and even tasted the sauce. We hope to meet up with her again at the Philly Show in October.

We met up with Chef Darryl Harmon, Executive Chef of The Water Works Restaurant and Lounge in Philadelphia. His staff was sampling the most delicious heirloom tomato gazpacho. If that was just a sample, we can't wait to get to the restaurant and try out something from the full menu.

We also met up wth Chef Diane Henderiks who was sampling and selling her fat-free, sugar-free, salt-free flavorings on delicious cubes of Cabot's cheese. Not only is she an awesome chef, she is a registered dietician so she can help you eat your way to good health.

Jim befriended Chef Rocky Fino, author of the book Will Cook For Sex: A Guy's Guide to Cooking. He was signing autographs and selling copies of his conversation-staring cookbook.

How to make FunniBonz Sloppy Joe

Dice a medium-sized onion and half of a green or red bell pepper, if desired.

Begin to brown one pound of ground beef or turkey. Once the meat begins to brown, add the onions and peppers and let them cook with rest of the meat.

Continue to cook until the meat is no longer pink and the vegetables are tender.

Add a jar of your favorite FunniBonz Barbeque Sauce. We used Original here because we were feeding the kids but, for an awesome grown-up version, try using a jar of FunniBonz Spicy.

Mix well until all ingredients are blended. Let simmer for five or six minutes to allow the sauce to heat through. No additional seasonings are necessary. Everything you need is right in the jar!

Serve on a bun with your favorite side items. Also makes great tacos and nachos!

NJ Festival of Ballooning

FunniBonz will be sampling the best tasting sloppy joe you have ever had at the NJ Festival of Ballooning at Solberg Airport in Readington, NJ all weekend long!

If you have never been to the balloon festival, you have been missing a real New Jersey treat! With reasonable ticket prices, it is an all day (or all weekend) event. Pack up the kids, throw your beach chairs, blanket and umbrella (and their wagon if they are small) into the car and make your way to Readington (less than 10 miles from Bridgewater, NJ.)

Near the front gate, you will probably be handed a bag filled with a few flyers, pens, and various tchotchkes from a local bank or real estate company. By the time you leave at the end of the day, that bag will be filled with samples of chips, candy, yogurt, keychains, soda, toys... whatever the local vendors can give you to introduce you to their stuff. And FunniBonz is no different. Well... except that our samples are hot, fresh and delicious. That's all!

There is a huge assortment of vendor booths with stuff to sell - from hot tubs and windows and cars to wind chimes and dream catchers and Native American music. You will also find lots of food stands with a generous variety of typical summertimes fares.

There are places to play games or shoot hoops for prizes, moon bounces, circus acts, a kid tent with hands-on activites and even an amusement park with rides galore. Plus Kool and the Gang and Michael McDonald will be there in concert. How much more can you ask for?

And after all of that walking and playing and eating and excitement, settle down in your lawn chair and watch the balloons pump up and take off. The QuickChek eagle balloon lifts off first and a hundred gorgeous, unusually shaped, vividly colored balloons follow it over the horizon just before dusk rolls in. It is really a beautiful sight to see.

So if you have no plans this weekend, or even just one free day, we highly recommend the NJ Festival of Ballooning.

And, of course, don't forget to stop by the FunniBonz booth and say "Hi!"

Up until recently, South Jersey residents had to travel up toward the Princeton area or west into Pennsylvania to pick up a jar of FunniBonz Barbeque sauce. That is no longer true. More great news! We have expanded again. Not only can you find FunniBonz at the McCaffrey's in the Princeton Shopping Center, you can also pick up a jar of your favorite sauce at the McCaffrey's location at the Southfield Retail Center in West Windsor.

The best thing about the West Windsor location is that McCaffrey's Wine and Spirits is right next door. So you can pick up some wings and sauce at the store, then scoot next door for your favorite beer and "Wha La!" you're ready to party!

This weekend you can sample and purchase FunniBonz Barbeque Sauce in two different places. Half of our Street Team will return to our favorite spot at the Pennington Quality Market where you can sample both sauces with quality items directly from the store's own meat department.

The other half of our Team will be at McCaffrey's Market at Princeton Shopping Center. This is a new location for us and we certainly hope that the Princeton residents are a wonderfully kind and receptive to us and our products as those in Pennington have been over these last few weeks.

So, make a plan to stop by one of these stores this weekend and sample some FunniBonz. If you haven't already tried it, this would be a great weekend to find out what you've been missing.
